British elderly woman wins bravery award for fighting a thief and hitting him with her cane

An 83-year-old British woman won a Courage Award in honor of her bravely resisting a thief and hitting him with her stick.

According to the British newspaper the Daily Mail, elderly John Turner won the Individual Act of Courage Award for 2020 at the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons.

"I never expected that I would get that," ITV News quoted Ms. June as saying after winning the award.

A thief broke into the newspaper that she ran, the elderly lady and tried to steal her shop’s money.


According to the newspaper, the old lady, a grandmother of three children, runs her shop

Newsagents for 45 years was behind the counter when a thief broke into the store at 6.30am in September last year.

Surveillance cameras revealed Grandma's bravery as she hit the thief, who was wrapped in a blanket, with her aluminum stick, before hitting him on the head as he tried to rob the store she ran.

But the thief managed to pay the old lady on the ground, and escaped with 50 pounds sterling and six packs of cigarettes. However, he was arrested and imprisoned later.

Referred to as A, this award is given to those who show courage and put their lives at risk to save the lives of others
